Abstract:

This coverage includes points that describe selected cities of the Australia and New Zealand area (Australia, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Tonga and Vanuatu; and portions of New Guinea and Solomon Islands).

Purpose:

To depict capitals and selected major cities as locational reference to Open File Report 97-470F Maps Showing Geology, Geologic Provinces, and Oil and Gas Fields of the Asia Pacific Region; Plate 3: Australia and New Zealand, which is being compiled as a reference for the U.S. Geological Survey's World Energy Project assessment of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas resources of the world. This coverage is used to produce a map and an Adobe Acrobat Portable Document of the map to be published on CD-ROM. An Arcview shapefile derived from this coverage is used in an Arcview project and an ArcExplorer project.
